A Fall Ride in Mystic

Total Distance:  42.0 miles                        Elevation Gain:  1735 feet  

 

Degree of Difficulty Index:  1735 ft / 42.0 mi = 41.31 ft/mi                                Terrain:  Rolling

 

Killer Hills:  None; however the ~ 4 mile stretch on Northwest Corner Road from mile cue 19.0 to 22.9 has several serious uphill stretches; there is a sharp 0.5 mi. up on Jeremy Hill Rd @ 27.3.

Starting Location (city/town):  Mystic

 

Starting Location (detailed directions to):  Olde Mystik Village parking area near the red caboose (next to the Mystic Aquarium).  Take I-95 Exit 90 and follow signs to the Mystic Aquarium. Olde Mystik Village is next to the Aquarium. 

 

Ride Description:  This ride has considerable charm.  It visits the villages of Mystic, Old Mystic and Stonington while passing thru portions of Ledyard and Preston.  Amongst the highlights are Olde Mystik Village, Village of Mystic, Mystic River w/ its special scenic river views, Old Mystic Village, Clyde's Cider Mill, Stonington Village and Stonington Point w/ its near 360 degree view of L. I. Sound.  There are many miles of relatively flat riding together w/ some hilly sections on the inland portions of the ride from mile cues 15.6 thru 28.8 (+/-).  There is a lot to see and enjoy on this ride.
